Seckford Ladies' Section

The Ladies Section at Seckford Golf Club is a very active division of the club and comprises just under 60 members, we have Tuesday as our main competition day and we also have a tee reservation on Thursdays which is open for any ladies to roll up.

Our section is extremely friendly with a wide range of golf abilities so those of all standards are welcome from those just starting to play through to those with lower handicaps. We have great changing and clubhouse facilities and pride ourselves on being one of the friendliest clubs in the area.

There is a competition each Tuesday with a variety of formats. There are of course fun competitions interspersed with the more serious competitions!

There are also friendly matches played against many of the local clubs both in Suffolk and Essex so there are plenty of opportunities to play at other clubs in the vicinity.

As a lady member at Seckford Golf Club there are a wealth of  opportunities open to you – from just playing socially with friends or partners to full participation in the various activities offered by the Ladies Section or a bit of both.
Tuesday mornings is Ladies Morning. We meet between around 8:45 and 9:15 and the first tee time for the ladies is 9:40. Usually we have around 25 ladies, sometimes a few more, and there is a great buzz in the golf club while we all chat and catch up over coffee, while waiting to play. We are a very sociable group, and many strong and lasting friendships have been forged from Tuesday golf.  On two Tuesdays each month we play our Medal and Stableford Competitions, so ladies who cannot play at the weekends have a chance to complete a Card with a view to reducing their handicap. Once a month we also have a Fun Day, which is organised by different ladies each time. This is an opportunity to raise a bit of money for the ladies section and to have a fun round of golf, with homemade cake afterwards!
There are also 4 tee times reserved for the Ladies on Thursday mornings. This is a very informal day and the format is decided by those ladies that turn up on the day.
During the year we have around 18 friendly matches with other clubs – some Home and some Away. These are always great fun to participate in, and after the match we have a meal. We try and ensure that all those who wish to play in the friendly matches have an opportunity to do so. It is a great way for those new to golf to build up their confidence. It is also a great way to meet other golfers and to experience playing at other courses. There are also 5 Mixed Matches each year which always prove to be very exciting days of golf.

Our annual Invitation Day – currently held during September - always proves to be a very successful and well supported event. It is an opportunity for Seckford ladies to invite either golfing friends, or ladies they may have met at matches to come and enjoy a wonderful day of golf, camaraderie and an excellent  lunch too.

For those  ladies with appropriate handicaps and with a good competitive spirit,  each year we enter Teams into the Suffolk County Golf Competitions. These are the Cranworth, the Stern, the Jubilee Shield and the Weston. Each year ladies can express their wish to play and then trials are held, teams are chosen, and practice rounds are held prior to the first round of each competition. Playing County Golf is a serious commitment and involves a lot of hard work and practice. Over the last couple of years, the hard work and commitment is beginning to pay off and Seckford Teams are progressing further in the competitions year on year.

At Christmas we always hold a Christmas Texas Scramble followed by Christmas Lunch and during the year we often celebrate important birthdays with a Texas Scramble and a Lunch.

Finally we have our Annual Ladies Away Weekend (a Sunday/Monday) which is organised each year by the Vice-Captain, for the current Captain. Over the years we have visited many different courses, including Dunston Hall, Barnham Broom, Hellidon Lakes and most recently Manor of Groves. These are always great events, and very well supported with around 36 ladies going along.

Finally, as you can see, Seckford Ladies Section is a busy and vibrant part of Seckford Golf Club, with something for everyone to get involved in if they wish. We are friendly and welcoming so if you would like to join a lively and progressive golf club, Seckford would be your choice.
